“I love wristwatches almost as much as I love racing. I bought the Rallye in the 1960s because I thought it was really cool. At the time, it was state-of-the-art and right on the cutting edge of modern. I got many compliments on it so I wore it often. I actually wore it daily for the entire month of May 1969 in preparation for the Indianapolis 500 – for practice, qualifying and during the race itself. It certainly became sentimental after I won that race, just like the helmet I wore that day and the fire suit. And the race car that carried me across the finish line ended up in the Smithsonian. All of these things became part of a day that changed my life.”

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Mario Andretti’s historic win at Indianapolis in 1969, YEMA pays tribute to his legendary career with the reissue of the Yema Rallye chronograph that Andretti wore during the race. This collector’s edition limited to 1969 time pieces will be available on pre-order as of March 1st, 2019 at Yema’s official store (yema.com) and selected watch boutiques worldwide.

COMMEMORATIVE CASEBACK

The elegant caseback features Yema’s coat of arms surrounded by an elegant engraving celebrating Mario Andretti's historic victory at Indianapolis 1969. The base of the caseback is adorned with Mario’s signature and each time piece is marked with an unique number.

COLLECTOR'S BOX & MEDAL

A refined brown leather watch box specifically designed for this unique collector’s edition includes commemorative medal honoring Mario Andretti's epic career, two autographed portraits of Mario at Indianapolis 1969 wearing the vintage Yema Rallye on his wrist and three 19mm leather rally-style straps (black, dark and light brown) for a resolutely racing and vintage look.

Designed and assembled in France, the Yema Rallye Andretti Limited Edition inspires from the classic features of its 1960s predecessor: A racing-inspired black dial, dashboard-like chrome
applied chrono registers, offset racing stripes and checkered flags in the center and distinct tachymeter markers.

Beyond the dial, the Rallye Andretti is a watch with proportions as solid as its looks, with its 39mm straight lug case, domed sapphire crystal, signed crown, fixed outer tachymeter bezel and workhorse Swiss ETA Valjoux 7753 automatic chronograph. The original model's steel case has been redesigned using 3D technology.

Super-Luminova

Les aiguilles et les index sont revêtus de Super-LumiNova. La Superman héritage Blue offre donc une parfaite lisibilité dans l'obscurité.

Mario Andretti is a racing icon, considered by many to be the greatest race car driver in the history of the sport.

He was born in Italy and didn't emigrate to the United States until age fifteen. At 19, he began racing stock cars in Pennsylvania and that was the start of an illustrious career that saw the versatile driver compete and win in every discipline he entered – midgets, sprint cars, dirt track cars, stock cars, IndyCars, Formula One, Formula 5000 and sports cars.

His achievements became legendary: The world watched as he won the Daytona 500, the Indianapolis 500 and ultimately the Formula One World Championship, an unprecedented trifecta. No other race car driver has ever won all three titles. Mario took the checkered flag 111 times during his career – a career that stretched five decades and across six continents.

Today he is a successful businessman off the track, serving as spokesman, associate and friend to top executives around the world.

He has received hundreds of awards and recognitions. Among the most prestigious, he was named Driver of the Century, he was knighted by his native Italy, and the Library of Congress in Washington DC added him to its Living Legends list. And on the lighter side, but undoubtedly affirmation of his charisma and popularity, he was in the first Pixar Cars movie voicing himself and GQ Magazine named him one of "The 25 Coolest Athletes of All Time”.
